Stories On was created out of a need for deeper connection and vulnerability between people with the changes in work and social life post COVID-19. In the busy social media landscape, we can sometimes lose sight of reality and what it means to be human. We see life highlights from the people around us, which are great, but often breed a skewed view of reality.
Starting in January 2023, Stories On was an event series featured in cool, eclectic venues around Denver, Colorado. Each month, we focused on a different theme featuring 1-3 longer stories on the topic and then an open mic where attendees could share stories on the spot. As interest in Stories On grew, followers on social media requested a way to attend virtually or listen in. Based on this user desire, we pivoted to a podcast! As the host, I played story sherpa for one person every month to share a vulnerable story on the theme of the month.
As the creator and producer of this series, I wanted to experiment with how connection worked in the nearly post COVID era. We wanted to hold space to balance while also connecting people in person from behind their screens.
The event series brought out curious open-hearted people around Denver, Colorado and the podcast gave the stories the range to reach people from all over the world. The result: Connection. Authenticity. Inspiration. The consistent feedback from listeners and event attendees was incredibly positive. Professional and personal connections were made. Inspiration and hope were bred throughout the content. I’m proud to have cultivated an authentic space for people in person and digitally, and am excited to see how this platform will continue to grow.
